What it the feature of education? As for me, it's experimental learning where students are educated through the first-hand experience with different tools like virtual reality and gamification. What do you think?

I am trying to move more towards discovery learning. Instead of giving students the Essential Questions of our unit, I want them to tell me what they think are the essential questions. I want to try this this year, but my HOD is really controlling, but thankfully is leaving this June.

I haven't read all of Kohn’s works, but I've read few of them about education and I fully support his view on some issues. To be exact, I also believe in a constructivist account of learning.  I think that Classroom disciplines are focused more on eliciting compliance than on helping students become responsible problem-solvers. And I think learning should be organized around problems and questions – rather than around lists of facts and separate disciplines. But I don't fully agree with his thoughts about the place homework holds in the classroom.

I agree. I have been using the UbD curriculum model since 2008 and it works great. I know that I tell myself I allow for a constructivist student-centered approach to unit and lesson planning, but the truth is I am a lot more teacher-centered than I should be (or am even aware of). I don't think I am the only teacher who is in this same category.

I also was taken aback by his view of homework. I think some skills require additional practice at home or don't fit into the time we have allotted for class.

Nancy, it's a very interesting question! I think that the future of education placed in edtech grows. Technologies for education play a crucial role in experimental and innovative learning. Thanx to these technologies educational process becomes easier, especially for online learning students. Also, I thinks that not last meaning has the academic intergrity. When students study without cheating. For this aspect plays role such edtech as Unicheck plagiarism checker and Emma Identity.

The Future of Education is a right style of education sense. Students should understand why the need to study or even attend a college.

Obviously, the future of education is very bright. New technologies like E-commerce learning, educational apps, and educational software are not just changing the mind of students, they are also encouraging them to do something new in their fields. The role of educators in educational software is quickly replacing the role of textbooks in the classrooms. With technology making it easier to solve problems, getting info on a specific topic it can be easily done through educational apps from anywhere any time. Experimental learning, discovery based learning, problem based learning...whatever term is being used lately is all well and good, but how young is too young for these techniques? In Canada, we have children graduating high school with sub-par math skills, reading, and writing abilities. Aren't those skills important anymore? I believe that by teaching children at a young age to have a strong number sense, strong reading and comprehension skills, and writing ability we are giving them the tools to succeed in the tech future. One of my colleagues said to me one day that she doesn't put much emphasis on proper penmanship, because when these children are graduated they will be using computers more than ever, so it doesn't really matter what their writing looks like. Is that how teachers in the past taught? By saying, oh it doesn't matter because in the future...

I think we need to be teaching our students to read, write, and speak in an appropriate manner, develop a strong number sense and computational ability, and critically analyze the world around them. Not all of these things can be done using technology and apps. Many of these skills are learned through direct instruction, modelling and scaffolding, and many hours of practice.
