The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Ok, Google Buzz is out and we have a sort of mix between Google Wave and other Social Media apps like Twitter.

First, Who is on Google Buzz?
Most of the people I interact with are not in my Gmail address book. (I connect with them through Twitter, Ning, LinkedIn, ect.)

Second, since this is new, it might be useful for us to share our impressions and tips on using this new application.

I like it so far. I am not a big fan of Google wave because you need to sign on separately and it's an entirely different effort. This seems to solve a lot of issues. I do 1 thing (aside from occasional Docs and use email) on Google. I use my Reader extensively and Tweet out anything I find interesting. This is done very simply from Buzz. I do notice that when following a publication it seems like the "wave" (if we want to call it that) gets long. But otherwise it just seems a mixture of twitter and gmail, which is fine for me. dbmurdoch@gmail - if you'd like someone to start collecting others using it (I would - if anyone else is would love to have your thoughts as well.) The "like" feature is shared too, which is nice - it is much like a bookmarking tool but we don't have to leave gmail.
I am Digin4ed@gmail.
I'm on it (http://www.google.com/profiles/alipkin) and enjoying my initial experience. Twitter and Google Reader were two of my primary web-sharing outlets already, so the easy integration of those sources (as well as Gmail). At this point, I'm finding it less of a professional tool than Twitter (given Tweetdeck's easy ability to handle groups), but it definitely has potential. I do think that the web-based interface will limit it, though.
I too am on Google Buzz (http://www.google.com/profiles/cmlorena). I have mixed feelings on it. I use Gmail, Google Docs,Google Reader, and Twitter extensively and I like that they all fit seamlessly with Buzz. I found a lot more old friends and connections with Buzz, which was great but I like to keep my personal and professional networks separately. I can keep my prof network organized with apps, but it doesn't seem as if Buzz allows for that yet.
