I taught in the environmental education field for 5 years before starting a M.Ed., Special Education program, and taught EE using a Guided-Discovery Approach. It's effective in EE classes because it supports children's natural sense of curiosity about the natural world. Based on my personal experience, I would say that it's an appropriate approach to use when presenting new, non-academic experiences.
