The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

How Did a Bogus "Vicky Lake" Send an Email from this PLN?

I received an email this morning from the Educator's PLN from a "Vicky Lake" who looked like a member until just a couple of minutes ago. She was on the Member's page, but had no information. Now she has been deleted.

What really surprises me is that she sent the email from the Educator's PLN (or what looked legitimately from here) and requested that I click on a Website ... "I get these free all the time! You can too!"

The email looked valid but obviously wasn't. How did this get through?

Okay ... I see that "she" signed up, joined lots of groups on this PLN, and then sent the emails from the groups. Spammers are extremely annoying and have no use.
"vicky lake" is not a member of this site. I am trying to track it down but from what I can determine we have no record of the existence of a "vicky lake"
I got the email this morning while I was online, and I looked right away and saw that she was listed as a member, but with no information (only 30303). Then I saw that she had joined quite a few groups from the Latest Activity section on the right. I went back and looked at my e-mail and noticed it came from the Edtech group. It really looked legitimate. As I was looking at everything, her information disappeared from this site. Crummy spammers.
