Is anyone willing to share there districts iPad user agreements.  District admin has put me on a mission to find out how schools are handling staff iPad use for students. There is talk of limiting teachers to downloading a few apps.  Then teachers must get approval to download other additional apps from admin? Thoughts? Suggestions?  How does your district monitor/manage apps?

We are using iPads at the school level and have no district level input.


For use this is how we use it:

iTunes set on Principal's Dept. of Ed issued credit card

Same account for all iPads

iPads Restrictions enabled, preventing installing, deleting of apps on the iPad (forces everything through desktop iTunes)

Principal and I are the only ones with that iTunes password

iPads pre-loaded with PlainText, Dropbox (generic account), NASA, Whiteboard, Dictionary, Calculator, LeafSnap (and a few others I'm blanking on right now)

Teachers can research apps on their teacher-issued iPads (tied to their own credit cards) and submit a written request for an app to be loaded on the student iPads

If request is approved I load it to the desktop version if iTunes and then batch-sync the student iPads as needed

My opinion is if you trust a teacher enough to give them an iPad, don't limit them to a number of downloads for free apps or apps they pay for.  That could limit creativity, which we are lacking so much of in today's classroom.  On the same line, they should be spot checked and monitored. (free apps)

And just to clarify, the description I gave was for student-specific iPads. The iPads we issue to the teachers are less restrictive. We mandate a few apps like Dropbox for filesharing but other than that they are theirs to do with what they will (if they leave the school they have to turn it in but as long as they work here we give recs on apps but they are free to explore as they wish)
