One of the most noticeable things about my 1 to 1's is the differences in style and content. When I do group teaching I use, for want of a better phrase, my "house style". But when it comes to 1 to 1 the lessons are often very different in style. Some are what you might call traditional lessons with materials and controlled practice, but with some customers the lessons are little more than a conversation with me giving hints and tips as we go along. This is particularly prevalent with senior managers.

"I just want to talk" say the customer and despite the occasional effort to bring more structure into the lessons it always regresses back to a sort of corrected conversation. Frankly, I get a bad conscience about these lessons, but the customers seem to love them. Indeed their satisfaction seems inversely proportional to the amount of grammar I introduce into the lesson.

Is this a bad thing? I can see improvement and the customer is happy, but the improvement could be much faster with another style.

Have other people experienced this? I'd be interested in any feedback.
