Today I used www.piclits.com for the first time with my students. What a great site for differentiating creative writing - from students who struggle with language to the most fluent, creative writers. The site is free and you don't even have to join to use it (unless you want to save.) We saved our work by doing a screenshot and then pasting and cropping in Word. Kids loved it and we saw some really impressive writing from students who might not normally produce that kind of work.

I've been intrigued by the language of "catch up" which has come from government ministers and even the Children's Commissioner. The idea that lockdown has resulted in lost learning and a widening of the gap can't be disputed but it is the solutions put forward by government which has revealed the reductive nature of the government's attitude to learning and to young people.
