"Confronting Ableism"

Anyone out there read this article?  The ideal educational setting would use the strengths of Learners with challenges to teach to and adapt programs for those Learners rather than trying to "fix the problem"...A very thought provoking article.

Hello Fellow Educators.  I'm a Learning Assistance Teacher in Delta.  I'm excited about collaborating with Teachers in my school and working hard to try and make School Based Team meetings a valuable use of time. UDL, simple action plans where everyone has a role in support and follow-up discussions seems to be working so far.  I'd love to hear about other schools' SBT meetings, how they work for you, ideas/activities that you value or anything else to do with support systems in your schools. :D

I'll look through my Diigo kellyjensen and find some resources.  But my fav is simply Etherpad.  Great opportunities for AFL practice.

There are so many outstanding, free Web2.0 applications that are perfect for writing exercises in primary grades.  Some of the best I've seen are: kidblog.org, storyjumper.com, storybird.com/teachers/, zooburst.com/, 

myfakewall.com/, xtranormal.com/, edu.glogster.com/ 

and audacity.sourceforge.net/ (great free audio editor for podcasts)

I'm a gr.4/5 teacher working in Maple Ridge, BC.  I'm in the Teaching and Learning in Today's Classroom module in Maple Ridge.  My field study this term will be looking at how I can use technology to meet my learning goals for writing.  I'd love to hear about how others have used technology in Writer's Workshop!

I am very excited to have joined this group. The past 2 comments have touched many issues being explored in my classroom and school.  I am currently learning about the New Literacies (Pahl & Roswel) and How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School: Expanded Edition (2000).  I teach in Squamish BC and am currently enrolled @ SFU Intergating technology COHORT.  I look forward to furture discussiona d sharing of resources.

Hi! I teach Foods & Nutrition 8-12 in Pitt Meadows, BC. I hope to meet other  teachers interested in ecoliteracy, sustainability, experimenting with new forms of assessment, cross-grade/cross-curricular projects, inquiry learning and self-directed learning! :)

I think our cultural diversity makes us a more accepting society in general and I think this flows into the classroom as well in regards to being open to new ideas, perspectives, etc.
