Currently I am teaching 4 and 5 year olds recorder. I had to adjust my curriculum quite a bit from my previous recorder students who were slightly older. With the younger ones I am challenged to make the class even more active, including games and moving activities which of course need to involve the recorder.

These are some of my games / activities that I use in the classroom:

- Walking and trying to play as long as possible and stopping when running out of breath

- Having one student play and the rest dances to the music

- Freeze dance: One student plays, others dance, when the music stops, all have to freeze, the one who moves is out

- I am also planning on renaming the class to "Karate Recorder." By passing certain challenges, students will get a yarn of a certain color around their recorder, just like they get different colored belts until the black belt in karate.

I am curious what others use to make it fun and interesting for the students.

Thanks for sharing!
