Ed,

It depends on how you want to field the content. The short answer is yes! But how? This is up to you. Here are some common course components and some ways to fulfill those tasks using Google Apps.

Your Course's Cental page for students- Google sites can be used as a central hub for course content, pages, links, podcasts, and incoming news.Students with Gmail accounts can log in to your site, while visitors can simply search it online.

Due Dates- Google Calendar can be used and shared on your site and show times of assignments, discussions, quizzes, tests, and project benchmarks.

Quizzes/tests- Google Doc/forms can be used to create formative and summative assessments. you can have multiple choice questions, matching, pick from a list and text questions. Most of these you can have self graded as well.

Assignments- Google docs can be used to create lessons in a word document format. For a more student led/paced approach, you can give students directions with links to videos, websites, and other activities, and use a google doc to record responses. Collaboration can be done as well through the google Docs texting option. Students can see who else is using the doc at that time and they can chat, much like in a chat room.Students can also edit documents with other students in REAL time!

conferencing- Students can chat with you one on one using Google Chat (similar to Skype). This can be used as an alternative to emailing feedback.

Grades- This would be a stretch, but spreadsheet can be used to share, but not for them to change. Make a template for each student to make an online gradebook. This would give students instant feedback.

Other projects- In addition to word processing, students can email videos they create, presentations through google docs presentation viewer, audio can be embedded online and emailed as a link as well. Students can make and submit complete online projects within google Apps. Discovery education has many educational videos you can embed in google docs.

Your main Teacher page- all of this can be gathered onto one central site withinigoogle for you to access all of your many tools, courses, and blogs you read on a central hub.

Hope this helps. If anybody would like to add some ideas. I would be loving some new stuff before I start my first day August 29th.    :)

One Good Deed Deserves Another

I read George Couros' book The Innovators Mindset recently. It was enlightening to say the least. There was so much in the book that I wanted to implement in my classroom, so I created an infographic about the book's main points. Since I post my work…See More
