Welcome!

One of the reasons behind forming this was group was to address some of the issues that are unique to Judaic studies teachers. Just as a way to get the discussion started I am going to list some of the issues that I am currently dealing with and my hope is that this will spark future discussions.
Topics/Issues
1. Establishing Benchmarks and Standards for the Judaic studies curriculum
2. Incorporating 21st Century Skills and Technology within the Judaic Studies curriculum
3. What do we want a graduate from a Jewish Day School to look like
4 Ivrit B'Ivrit
5. Making Tefilah more meaningful

Adena,

I couldn't agree more so I guess the next step is for us to define our purpose

Tom Whitby said the growth was mostly viral -- and I agree with Tzvi that the purpose should be defined before we publicize the group. While there are others, I would say that one major advantage of the Edu PLN versus LookJed is that teachers who join this group can take advantage of other groups, discussions, videos, etc... on the PLN - they can network with teachers in the secular world who have similar pedagogical or technological interests. We can use this group as a gateway to the larger discourse.

I have mentioned this before. I think the group really needs to define itself what it is all about. How is this different than say Lookjed? What is the point? I also suggested that if the there would be some sort of set rotation for people to blog about topics of interest to the group (at a manageable interval) perhaps that will help gain interest as well.

Rachel and Adena those are both good ideas. Tom has RT for it and is supportive of the group. The other issue is what kind of exposure do we have on Twitter - how many people on Twitter belong to Edchat etc.

I still believe that if we had content and real discussions word would spread as well.

My thoughts

Thank you both for all your efforts

I'll contact Tom Whitby (EduPLN founder, I think) to see how they spread the word in the general ed. world.

what about something to distribute at the upcoming day school conference?

I want to echo Aden's comment and welcome our new members. I have tweeted about this group and I know it was RT by PEJE and by LA BJE. However perhaps the best way is word of mouth.

I also think that we need to be having some real discussions if we are using this group for PD and collaborating ans posting and sharing ideas then I think people will see it as being beneficial and the word would spread.

Those are my quick thoughts, but I thank everyone for being a part of it and I too hope it grows and becomes a vehicle that will help with student learning
