We are watching the movie El Norte in my Spanish 4 class, and discussing a number of issues related to the movie.  We do that in the target language.  They will have to write a composition over the week end.  What movies do you use in the most advances French and Spanish classes?

I am wondering how many ELL teachers and administrators are following this group.  I find myself with a new responsibility at my school - training teachers to assess English Language Learners by using the Massachusetts MELA-O instrument.  My school district serves fewer than 20 ELLs district-wide this year.  I hope that those of us with such a low incidence of ELLs in our districts can form a small network to share resources and advice.  I have been administering the Mass MEPA for six or seven years now, but using the MELA-O will be new for me.   To further this sharing, I have established the hashtag #MassELL on Twitter.  If there are any Massachusetts ELL professionals out there who are interested, maybe we could start using this hashtag and start building our network.  If this is not the best match for a group, maybe someone would be interested in establishing a group dedicated to ELL.

Thanks.

-Kevin

Hola. I am an IBMYP (International Baccalaureate for the Middle Years) teacher. I teach an Introduction to Spanish to ten 6th-grade classes at two schools. I am always open to new ways to reach my 6th-graders and love collaborating and sharing with other educators.

Hola. Am interested in how we assess student speaking on a regular basis and improve that speaking through non-technology and technology ways. Like web 2.0 tools.

I teach French in Kentucky. I use NING with my students and parents. I am slowly abandonning my textbooks in favor of standard based performance events. I am working on National Board Certification.

Self-Regulation: Getting Our Students To Care

I think all educators can agree that we want our students to become better self-regulated learners. However, this is a daunting task for teachers. I've spent a great deal of time trying to teach my grade 6 students various self-regulation skills such as planning, goal-setting, self-monitoring, time management, self-control, and reflection, but in past years it hasn't quite "taken" the way I hoped it would. I talk about how important this skills are until I'm blue in the face and I usually get…See More

A Childhood Educator Is Becoming Commonplace In Teacher Training

School boards and individual teachers are seeking out new ways to improve and maintain their own learning process. Teachers with a passion for their career are routinely discovering innovative ways to brush up on skills, and to develop new methods for delivering information. Teachers know that children have a huge capacity for retaining knowledge, and that every child has their own unique way of grasping the information delivered in the classroom. A childhood educator is an expert in childhood…See More
