To Kareen, I like to combine data and statistics with my year 8 work in fractions decimals and percentages. I do this by having students practice the f-d-p work while creating a frequency table of the data that they have collected. My colleague also includes an 'edible math' component, where the students must somehow represent their data in a visual form - eg pizza or cake pie graph, bar graph made up of food, etc. It is important to emphasize that accuracy and the inclusion of scales is important in the creation of the edible math project. You could even incorporate the edible math component with a study of fractions when measuring ingredients during an in-class or at home cooking exercise.

I am looking for math projects for a Grade 8 option that involves real life situations. anyone know of a resource or have a project they put together. I would like fractions,decimals and percentages to be a part of the project.

Today in my University class of Math Methods we covered 5 different subtraction algorithms. The students loved looking at simple math from other perspectives.
