Just Joined.
I am a Middle Years curriculum coordinator working hard to implement some PBL in years 8 and 9. Currently we are a departmentalized school, but the Middle Years component is new and we have a nearly unlimited access to technology.

Jocelyne, I found the book on Amazon, along with several other similar books for task-based learning and teaching.

Thank you. I tried to order the book through Amazon but it is out of print. :( I will keep it in mind though .

The most successful TBL project I've ever done was (mostly) spontaneous. My adult ELL learners were assigned to give a five-minute demonstration speech. The first person chose to do a simple cooking demonstration. It was so well received, that everyone wanted to do a cooking demonstration. At the end, the class asked to create a cookbook. They assisted each other with writing, editing, photos, and design. In addition, each person wrote a narrative about the dish they demonstrated. The project, including the speeches, took almost six weeks to complete. This was an authentic collaborative experience. The list of what we all learned is very long.

I highly recommend the book, A Framework for Task-Based Learning, by Jane Willis. Published by Longman for language teachers, it includes six types of tasks; sample lesson outlines, and assessments.

I teach French 8th-12th. I amn trying to teach using standard based performance events but like you I am finding myself having to rush through instruction to give my kids time on the project. Any ideas?
