The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Hey everybody!

If you've seen Khan Academy and www.englishcentral.com you might already know that these guys measure learning success with an ever evolving recursive set of algorithms akin to Google search!

What?!

What that means is that rather than filling in the multiple choice bubbles on a traditional quiz, the apparatus that they have created is constantly learning more about how their individual learners learn on a very deep level.

Have a look here;

http://www.ted.com/talks/salman_khan_let_s_use_video_to_reinvent_ed...

The problem that we want to solve is how to bridge that type of analytical data gathering process from the digital world to the physical world.  There are just some things that a website can't track progress of just yet;

- How good a student's posture is and where or not he or she is paying attention in class.

- If they are willing to share with their classmates or work to overcome adversity.

- How respectful they are.

- How kind they are.

- How they followup with homework labs.

These are just a few factors that we as teachers must consistently measure and work on growing in our students and their families.

So taking the analytical approach of Khan Academy, Englishcentral.com and Google in general, we've taken a crack at bridging that real classrooms here in China using www.prezi.com.

Each student has their own personal dossier that teachers write observations into every month.  We keep a tally of their progress in the following areas;

- Attitude ( We believe attitude is everything. )

- Behavior ( Good behavior flows out of a good attitude )

- Cognitive development ( Good behavior begets good learning habits )

- Lingual development ( Our habits affect our language which is the filter we see the world through )

- Academic performance ( Our habits and paradigms affect our long term academic performance )

We are still updating the prezi to a copy-able and easy to use format for all teachers around the world.   Once it is ready we'll add the link below.

However in the mean time we would love to hear your thoughts on this subject and more specifically, what do you do in the classroom now to go beyond multiple choice answer learning and really customizing the learning process for your own students?

Integration with The Latest Technology in Education Field

It is with certainty that we can say that the future of education is looking very bright. Today the kids are taught so many new innovations that we adults couldn't have imagined learning at school. They are also given exposure to more practical lessons. Integration with the latest technology and the accessibility to global platforms have made the industry take a whole new perspective towards imparting knowledge to students. Though the current generation is much advanced and keep up with the…See More
