I'm looking for literacy educators who use manipulatives (actual or virtual) for teaching reading and writing. I'm interested in multisensory experiences and how that impacts the teaching and learning of literacy skills. Anyone out there willing to share?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Greg Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea, looking forward to his new book! I just found out that he will be speaking at my Teachers' Convention in February as a keynote speaker, looking forward to his visit!

Dear Elementary friends,

I wanted to let you know that I am participating in a Microgrant program sponsored by PCI Education and an online community, called WeAreTeachers.

My project will help connect students to world using technology.

The 10 recipients of this grant receive $200 to aide their work with special education students, as well as a flip video camera. Recipients are selected through an online voting process. SO -- If you have a moment, I'd really appreciate you going online and voting for my project. It would really mean a lot to me to have your vote and support! Just go to http://www.weareteachers.com/web/602148/1 and follow the directions there.

Thanks, Karla Duff

NCTM's sites has many interactive ways that you can use technology to teach math. They are also on Twitter. Each day they send a math problee tweet and later that day you can read the answer. See if your students can beat the time before the answer is tweeted!
