Co-Teaching for ELL

Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to provide professional development activities for a group of co-teachers who were partnering with ELA (English Language Acquisition) or ESL or ELL specialists - too many acronyms! Anyway, they are experiencing great success with co-teaching this population of students in heterogeneous classrooms. I am curious - how many of you see co-teaching occurring with ELL specialists in your districts? What would you say are the major differences that need to be…See More

Books and Resources

Happy New Year! I thought it might be helpful for our group members to share book titles and resources they use to enhance their co-teaching.I will start us off with a few of my favorites:An oldie but goodie is "Working Together: The Art of Consulting and Communicating" by Anita DeBoer. Lots of great ideas for how to collaborate with resistant teachers! Available from Sopris Learning.I also like Wendy Murawski's "Collaborative Teaching in Secondary Schools." She uses a marriage as a metaphor…See More

Anne,

I work with pre-service school librarians. School librarians co-plan, co-teach, and co-assess with classroom teachers. I thought I might pick up some pointers for them.

Thanks for asking.

Keys to Change Leadership

Leading change to help school practitioners embrace not only technology in teaching but in assessment, grading, and outcomes can be a challenge. Systemic, meaningful change from an environment of rote learning to the collaborative nature in a 1:1 environment can be met with resistance. With his experience as an implementation change agent, Dr. Dillon served as coach, mentor and guide for school leaders and School Improvement Teams embarking on this change. As the picture of how to best support…See More

I thought I'd eventually be out of a job.

I ask a student to attach a file to an email and I get a blank stare.I tell the class to open a new tab so they have two websites open at the same time and I have to show them how to do that a few times.I assume that since they are growing up with technology they naturally know how to use it, but I am shown on a daily basis that this is not the case. They know how to get to their game website and play till their eyeballs fall out, but when I ask them to find a file they created yesterday, they…See More
