Karen, thank you for commenting on my post. I am in a school similar to yours but I have a supportive administrator. Together, we are able to work around a not so supportive IT director. It helps to have an administrator on your side. I am undecided also in who needs to take the first step in changing our educational system. But there is one rule I live by and I tell my students to live by: "Be the change you want to see in the world."- Ghandi. It takes both administrator and teacher, but if you start, others will follow. Your student's desire to learn and participate will soon catch the attention of the admin and other teachers in your building. When students WANT to learn, it brings attention to what is being done to bring about those behaviors. My school blocks all social media sites also. But luckily, I have a Mac. Any app you download to access sites, so far, cannot be blocked. I can tweet all day long and get resources from my PLN instantly. Good luck to you and feel free to contact me at any time!!

I am an ESOL teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools in Fairfax, VA. I work in an Entry Assessment Office and we use the WiDA Screener to identify students who are eligible for ESOL services. I'm hoping to connect with other teachers who use the WiDA Screener to begin a discussion about its strengths, weaknesses, etc. Hope to hear back from you!Joe HarrisSee More
