The Teaching and Learning Group
At Hawes Side we have worked for many years to develop student voice. One of the most important groups I meet with regularly is our T&L Group. This is made up of a group of children in Y6 (10 and 11 year olds). One day a week we have lunch together and share our thoughts on a range of topics that we feel will ultimately help us become better learners.
Our research recently has featured on the qualities of an effective learner. The first…

LETTERS, THE TEACHER'S ELVES
I’m sure we sometimes finish the lesson before the planned time or we see that our students are lost and aren’t following us then we tend to find something to motivate them.
It’s always a good idea to have something ready for these moments. Fillers are great. They are short, energising and motivating.
Whenever I feel we are stuck in the middle of the lesson and have nothing to continue, I use one of the simplest tools that I have,…

The world at times is a do-ocracy. Tonight I decided to create a Ning community for Ubuntu Educators. I wanted to create this community to give educators and those supporting educators a place to:
* Share ideas about how to use FOSS in the classroom
* Share success stories
* Ask questions on how to develop curriculum using FOSS
In short have a resource that discusses pedagogy. While there is a great amount of information pertaining to the more technical side of…

I've always hated pulling up YouTube videos due to the comments, related videos, and other junk that are crawling all over the pages for individual videos. Well I have just found the cure from (@cliotech aka Jennifer Dorman on Twitter).
The cure is QUIET TUBE. All you need to do is drag the Quiet Tube button into your bookmark toolbar and when you find a video on YouTube or other related site you just need to click the Quiet Tube button and the video plays alone in a separate window...no…

The pressure of writing a dissertation is most monstrous and unimaginable. Due to inability to handle the ginormous task on their own and deadly threatening time constraint, many people decide to buy a dissertation.
It is neither an easy task to decide where to
buy dissertation from nor ask for an advice on it. Judgmental as advisors may be, they regard buying dissertation online unethical which is…

I have yet to have the chance to participate in an Edchat discussion on Twitter, however I have spent some time looking over a few of the transcripts. I think this is a great tool/forum and look forward to participating in the near future. After looking over the transcript this evening, I decided to copy the text and create a Wordle (subtracting date, time, usernames, and other things like "RT", "@", and "#edchat")...it was easier than it might sound.
I thought it was neat to see the…

The K12Online Conference 2009 is about to begin! So far this year we have enjoyed 3 LAN parties leading up to the main conference. The LAN parties featured past presenters, their presentations, and chat room hullabaloo. While this was all connecting and learning, the main event really gets me dancing! The preconference keynote goes live on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 12:00:00GMT --> Time Where You Are. This doesn't mean you have to be there the…

Would you like to join us?
Christmas is a time when we come together with our families or share the joy of the kids at home or remember people who need our help, affection or concern.
For us, the EFL teachers, Christmas is a time when we try to do fun activities with our classes.
Watching the movie, About a boy, with my students and listening to the Christmas song Will’s father wrote rang a bell and I just jotted down the ideas to start this project. I’ll do it…

As we all know, there are some great educational videos out there to use with our students. Some of us have the luxury of using Discovery Education Streaming, Safari Montage, Learn 360, BrainPop, or other subscription-type services. For those that do not,
WatchKnow is a terrific site that "organizes all of the best free educational videos made for children."
"WatchKnow is both a…

I just posted a list of the web 2.0 tools and how I used them on my blog.
http://evasimkesyan.edublogs.org/ and later I found out PinDax, an online message board creator with colorful post-it note options and I prepared a noticeboard with the tools I've used so far.
http://www.pindax.com/myboard If you add the ones that you like to use, I'll be very happy.
