Higher Education and educational policies are under scrutiny ...

I am writing a conference paper and would like to harvest the collective mind of the social web for some constructive comments - this is just a small portion of one page. Don´t want to exceed the 10000 word policy :)

Higher Education and educational policies are under scrutiny as we move forward into the 21st century. The traditional higher educational system, with it universities as the hub of knowledge, is under revision, less from the universities them self’s but more from a… Continue

Forgetting my own words...

I have an issue regarding my sources - since I am doing my PhD I have a desktop full of papers and documents, videos and slide-shows and audio lectures to name a few. In the "old" days one used a file system on paper cards with names of references. Now i have a big-old folder on my desktop called references and in it over a 100 folders with different names on them - see I now where the references are, it is finding the relevant one when I need them.

When I find a reference (any media… Continue

The control issue

I had an interesting meeting yesterday, the back story is that I have just started my PhD with focus on social web 2.0 for in education - the senior professors at my university are running a project where they have have developed a web site or a networking service for students - it is suppose to work similar to Ning.

In my mind they are going about this from a very interesting angle - they basically want to control students behavior and monitor their content creation. Am example;… Continue

Web 2.0 vs. e-learning… reflection

Previous statement… Posted yesterday.

“…the proposed research will not focus on the concepts of e-learning since I consider a fundamental difference between the learning practices and methods within web 2.0 social networks and the instructional nature of e-learning methods. The concept of e-learning will however be discussed and partly analyzed to emphasize the unique nature or learning within web 2.0 social networking…

Research Plan

I am struggling with focus... regarding my PhD research-plan. I now got four research questions all of whom I like to keep. By the we, the subject of my research is the use of web 2.0 social network environments for learning and teaching - the changing role of students and teachers (hi, thats a catchy research question !!!).

I am going to post a statement here that I feel strongly about, I have given it a lot of thought so if anyone reads this and… Continue
