Early Childhood Educators understand that children thrive in environments where student expectations are clear and classroom routines are predictable. The Missouri Early Childhood Standards state that Preschool age students should be able to:

-listen responsively to books and stories
-listen to and engage in conversations with others
-follow simple rules
-respect the rights of others

Many of your colleagues have found value in involving their students in the process of determining these classroom expectations and making visual reminders to internalize self-control and student responsibility. The collaborative development of classroom expectations increases the predictability and reduces stress in the classroom. Expectations should be clear, concise, and applicable to the whole group. The following classrooms have capitalized on their students' visual strengths to increase their ability to function independently both academically and socially.

Look at the kid friendly ways that your colleagues are reinforcing their classroom expectations.
