The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Here's an interview I conducted of a sixth grade student with a Facebook account:

Age? 12

Do you have a Facebook account? Yes

How long have you had it? 2 years

Do your parents know about it? Yes, they helped set it up.

Do they know your password, and if so, do they monitor your account? Yes. They look at each about once a month.

Have you ever accepted a friend request from someone you don't know? No. 115 or so friends

Have you ever given out your address or other personal information on this site? No

Have you ever been cyber bullied on Facebook? No

Have you ever gotten involved in cyber bullying someone else? No, never had any friends do it either.

Do you post pictures of yourself on this site? If so, what types? Sometimes, whenever mother uploads. Mother has to approve all pictures.

Did your parents ever sit down and discuss rules or guidelines for using this site before you joined? Yes, kind of. They me not to accept friend requests from strangers, not to post any pictures without them knowing, don't talk bad about people on Facebook. Can only get on when a parent is there. Don't get on at night.

Do you ever use Facebook for school? To talk to friends about homework sometimes.
