Designing and Managing a Global Collaborative Project-Working with Wonderful People!

 I have just finished working with the most wonderful people! They are all pitched in and worked together to get this project off the ground and up and running.  Simply fantastic-hope to work with them all in the future! Thanks to all of you!

  At the beginning of this project one of the main questions that I had was what kind of project do we want to design and implement. I also wanted to know what I needed to do in order to contribute or be a resource for the project. Another question would be how to tie the standards to our project.

  Rigor means to create or design lessons at the high end of the knowledge taxonomy. Relevance is the purpose of the student’s learning. Globalization and technological advancements effect how we live, communicate, and conduct business. Therefore, we have to embrace global education because the children we have within our classrooms today will be living, communicating, and conducting business in a global economy. Our lessons and learning experiences should have real world relevance while incorporating 21st century skills that will be needed by our students in their future workplace.

  Social media is instantaneous. Most of the students of today have access to some sort of social media and they know how to use it and they use it often. Social media could offer another avenue for students and their teachers to communicate and collaborate.

  Some projects suffer because of differing time zones, schools systems, lack of resources, insufficient training and preparation of students, inexperience classroom organizers, use of colloquialisms and native languages, and parental influences (biases). We can overcome some of these issues by being proactive in preparing students to work in multicultural environments online; ensuring respect and awareness; monitoring what students are saying; giving guidance, rules, and expectations; and having network tools.

The characteristics of an engaged teacher and classroom in a global collaborative project are keeping it simple or connect with existing project, keep promises, make it real, make it authentic, be prepared to accommodate differences, and be flexible.
