The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

When someone is interested in becoming a teacher or has a calling, they usually have not a clue what they are getting into. I mean this in a good way, because many believe that teaching is something easy and that anyone can do it. That is not the case, I have seen it many time in college and how many students are lost and some haven't even been in a classroom to feel the environment.

One way to help future educators to be more involved is through joining clubs in college. It is a great experience to always have support and guidance to your future career. One great club that I enjoyed in college that oriented me in the educational field was SCTA (Student California Teacher Association) . I was able to learn about the different career path that I can take with education and helped me see were my help was needed. This club help me and all the group members to be involved in the community by doing can food drives, providing clothes to students, and helping each member finding help in all the growth that they need for their educational goals.

WiDA Screener 2.0

I am an ESOL teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools in Fairfax, VA.  I work in an Entry Assessment Office and we use the WiDA Screener to identify students who are eligible for ESOL services.  I'm hoping to connect with other teachers who use the WiDA Screener to begin a discussion about its strengths, weaknesses, etc.  Hope to hear back from you!Joe HarrisSee More
