How I Implemented Blended Learning In My Classroom With Finite Sources And Got A Significant Results

Most of us have heard about blending learning. Many even use it in their teaching practice. Still, some confuse blending learning with other concepts such as technology-rich classrooms or online classrooms.

To distinguish these concepts, I’ll give the definition of blending learning. Blending learning – is a mix of face-to-face teaching with online learning, thus students conduct part of their learning in school and the other part online.

Now it’s time to tell you about my experience of introducing blending learning into my educational process.  As the main platform for organizing online activities of my students, I’ve chosen Google Classroom because it’s free and easy to use. Surely just that doesn’t make it a blended classroom. For that, I needed some additional apps.

App 1. Discovery Education

Discovery Education is a great source of digital textbooks, streaming plus digital media, curricular resources and lots of other great stuff to transform your classrooms into a 21st-century learning environment.

Digital textbooks are available in math, science, and social studies. They save our time with its comprehensive design that includes model lessons, student activities, assessments, and data dashboards. They also make differentiation easier through a blend of text and media, different reading levels and languages, and a text-to-speech feature.

Streaming Plus Digital Media it's not just videos. Resources include interactive activities, reading passages, audio clips, skill builders, and writing prompts that engage students and extend critical thinking. Streaming also includes instructional resources such as lesson starters, training videos, and classroom strategies to help them invigorate every lesson.

Thanks to these tools you teach your students to think critically about the content they use, see, and experience in their daily lives and to ask questions about the world around them. In addition, they offer a variety of professional development opportunities to ensure effective implementation in the classroom.

App 2. Unicheck

It's very important to teach our students to think independently, not to copy other people's ideas and texts, isn’t it? This wonderful plagiarism checker helped me to do this. It is easy to use, has a nice design, papers are checked quickly. And their recent integration with Google Classroom simplifies this process. With this integration, I receive notifications on the checked student submissions to my email. The notification briefs me on the similarity rate of each student paper, lists student name, email and submission date. Also, I see which paper needs checking right away. Plagiarism reports then can be shared with students.

For all this, you have to choose Google Classroom in the Unicheck’s LMS Integration tab. Type in the name of the integration, pick up the classes to be connected, specify a plagiarism report receivers, and select search settings. Also, you can add your institution’s logo to the Unicheck report.

Time is saved. I’m comfortable. Students write independently and are able to think their mind. Excellent!

App 3. Quizizz

This one allows teachers to create multiplayer classroom quizzes that include leaderboards, avatars and more. You can find amazing quizzes made by other teachers, or create your own quizzes and share them with the world. Learning through them is fun and effective.

They also offer avatars, leaderboards, themes, music, and memes! In general, everything that our students would have fun and interesting! Making quizzes in their constructor is super-easy. While your students are having a blast, you are provided with detailed class and student-level data. Students were so excited with those quizzes. And they themselves didn’t notice how they got around during the game!

Well, here my story’s come to an end. I think you can guess how all this has improved my educational process. The students' burning eyes, their enthusiasm, all this spoke for itself! And if you are still thinking of letting modern technology in your Classroom – don’t hesitate for a minute. A small start-up instruction you already have.

Hi,

I’ve been using this checker for a year already and I'm totally satisfied with it. It’s the matter of taste of course. But I personally like it a lot. For me, it’s the most usability friendly checker ever.  Recently they updated their design and it became even better.  So I guess it's worth trying.

I had only heard of Unicheck function. Is it user friendly?
