International Holocaust Memorial Day as declared by the UN Jan.27th,2012

Holocaust International Day of Commemoration January 27th, 2012

"The 2012 observance of the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust will focus on the theme “Children and the Holocaust”. The United Nations will remember the one-and-a-half million Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust, together with the thousands of Roma and Sinti children, the disabled and others, who suffered and died at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators. Some children managed to survive in hiding, others fled to safe havens before it was too late, while many others suffered medical experiments or were sent to the gas chambers immediately upon arriving at the death camps. Highlighting the impact of mass violence on children, this theme has important implications for the 21st century."

Our project offers a yearly unit at http://www.globaldreamers.org/12holocaust/index.htmlTeachers are invited to send materials to Marsha at gorenmm@gmail.com

Now more than ever it is important to teach the Holocaust to children so they will never forget it happened and perhaps create a better and more individual citizen in our future.

I look forward to hearing from you all and if anyone has any questions you may contact me directly. I highly recommend you look at the many links offered for educators and children.

Thank you for your response, it is appreciated, there has to be a combination and this is according to Yad Vashem, remember the past but teach for a better future. Children are the future. I too pray it will never happen to any people ever again. By the way my work was given the Yad Vashem award for excellence in Holocaust teaching, I also stand by my Mom's legacy which was to teach them to be good children. Much thanks.

I live in Israel. We have a different holocaust day of commemoration.
On both international and Israeli commemoration days we teach our children (teach ourselves?) about the holocaust horrors. I think that each person should be educated about the holocaust, so it will never return again. To no one and to no nation or race.
