The personal learning network for educators
I just read our Teacher's Working Condition Survey results from the 2011-2012 school year and found that 50% of our teachers feel that they need more training in the area of gifted education in order to meet the needs of gifted learners in the classroom. I consider this a large number considering we have 21 teachers in grades k-6. Since the budget crises and cuts to professional development, I feel that as the gifted teacher this now rests on my shoulders. I suppose an after school meeting once a month for 45 minutes would help, but not sure that is enough. Trying to decide how to help my teachers receive the training and information they need in order to be successful with these students. Perhaps I should start with my own survey that will address the exact needs of the teacher in regards to understanding the unique needs of the gifted child, and the mode in which they wish to receive information. Yes, I think I'll begin there. Updates later...
