The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Personal Learning Networks (PLN) is networking sites where people such as educators can communicate with one another and ask questions. For example a useful tool I would use would be twitter. In twitter I can ask a question about, what site can I find worksheets about math fractions to provide for my students? From there I will receive many sites but my favorite site I liked was where I was able to find for any grade level and the type of fractions I was using. I enjoyed the use of RSS feeds because I can easily access current information or news under one site. Under Google reader I was able to access all the RSS feeds I subscribed to like the North Country Times, Educational Week, and the San Diego 6 news under one site which it provided the information that I just wanted to grab from those particular sites that were useful to me like looking at the news that was only local around my surrounding cities.

The people who I was following on Twitter were mainly people from our classroom but I was also following the US Department of Education which it was informing me in how to teach historical events in classrooms. The Diigo site was an excellent networking site where I was able to get information from other educators about certain sites they find very useful in aid for a particular class subject. My overall experience about PLN in the Education 422B class with Dr. Chen was very informational for me. I learned a whole lot about useful networking sites or PLN’s in which I can join to people’s conversations using blogs, discussion forums, etc… I also learned how to make blogs in which other people can comment on them and provide their opinion about my ideas or express their feelings about authors of books I have commented about.
