The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Change is difficult for everyone. This year my school district launched a new website. It is user friendly and has a beautiful design--the one problem is that teachers are either afraid to use it, or convinced that parents aren't using it.

I will admit. I was intimidated at first. I thought about how many hours it would take to scan every assignment that I provide to my students. I questioned if my students would be the target for bullying if I put examples of our notes, or assignments online. As a learning support teacher I work with several students throughout the day on a variety of different levels. I felt as if I put their math work, or reading work online as a reference tool, other students in the general population may find it and pick on them for the level of work they are doing. Perhaps I am overly concerned, but I would rather be overprotective of my students, than put them at risk.

For now I am sticking with updating the syllabus and attempting to list my daily assignments on the calendar. I was able to start a classroom blog and the kids were really excited to participate... so I may just be able to drum up some student support!

What do others do to encourage the use of technology within their classroom, yet balance the anonymity of students?
