Screencasting vs YouTube & teacher talk?

Dazzled & excited by the array of shiny new apps & gadgets anyone into ed tech is using, I had a look at screencasting and immediately faced a few questions:
1. How do I keep my voiceover focused & coherent?
2. Aren't YouTube videos, some professionally produced, way better than my screencasts?
3. What actually is the difference between standing in front of a whiteboard, pausing, drawing circles etc and showing a pre-annotated screencast?

I get that one can produce several & have students watch a range of screencasts at different points: that is definitely useful. Just wondering what others have found to be advantages / disadvantages.
