Summer is a great time to learn about VSC!


Teachers - spend a little time this summer familiarizing yourself with  VocabularySpellingCity and learn how it can make teaching spelling and vocabulary simple for you and fun for your students! Simply go to and register for free! You can enter and save your own word lists to use with your students in the upcoming year or search for commonly used lists with our Find A List feature. Sentences can be customized for each word to suit your students' needs and all content that you create will appear on your students' games and activities. Your students can even take their spelling tests directly on our site and print a report or a certificate when they are finished. All of our games are compatible with interactive whiteboards as well.


Our Premium Membership offers the added benefits of access to our Premium Games (which may be sampled by our free members using any of the sample lists on the games' instructions pages or any of the lists available in our extensive Teacher Resources section), plus vocabulary content, and automated student record-keeping. Scores of tests taken on our site are automatically recorded for you - this is a great step toward a paperless classroom.

Catch up or recovery?

I've been intrigued by the language of "catch up" which has come from government ministers and even the Children's Commissioner. The idea that lockdown has resulted in lost learning and a widening of the gap can't be disputed but it is the solutions put forward by government which has revealed the reductive nature of the government's attitude to learning and to young people.
