Teaching About Reconstruction of the U.S. After the Civil War

This post is for my friends that begin their American History course with a Reconstruction Unit. I will share lesson ideas that I used during my years of teaching Part 2 of U.S. History and in my AP class. In my Part 2 U.S. History classes, it had been several years since students had taken the first half of U.S. History in 8^th grade, yet at that time in Texas they were still tested over it in 10^th and 11^th grade. Even though this has changed with our new end of course test, I still might consider starting with a quick review of early American history. If you would like to begin with a review, here is a fast and effective way to do it. In fact it is a way to cover any large chunks of content fast and effectively. It is a combination of a jigsaw, learning center and carousel activity.
