Who Else Dreams About Creating a New Reality for Public Education?

I am a 16 year dedicated professional educator with a never ending passion for meeting the needs of all students.  It is my professional goal to join/find/create a group of educational leaders who share my professional passion and recognize the need for innovative change in public education.  I have come to the realization that I no longer want to make small or minor adjustments to present practices in an individual school setting, but want to become a change agent on a larger scale.  I want to create and support major changes in educational systems and structures that will provide equitable access for ALL students to an education that recognizes them as unique, gifted and knowledgeable beings who are begging for the opportunity to imagine, think and create – not learn.

For 15 years I have pushed myself to be the best support that I could be for teachers and students, to no avail.  While I know that my efforts and dedication have touched and changed many lives, it has not been systematic and there are those that I could not reach or help.  I don’t believe that it is due to a fault within me, other dedicated educators or even students and their families.  We are all locked in a system that doesn’t allow us to reach beyond a glass ceiling of bureaucracy to truly reach for the stars and experience the other wonders of the universe and the boundless possibilities of creation within our own mind.

I have decided that it is time to allow myself to step away from the system that I know has failed me. To begin to create what I know our teachers and students need.  The answer does not exist in books or literature, but within each of us that chose this profession because we wanted to change and make lives better and worth living through the gift of education.  Not an education defined by test scores, obtainment of standards, interventions in a triangle of academics and behavior, and labels.  An education filled with questions, wonderings, thinking, possibilities, creativity, mistakes that lead to new discoveries and the realization that there is no such thing as wrong, just different perspectives.

What I am looking for…

A group of creative, open-minded, and knowledgeable professionals who are ready to collaborate to create change in the public education system.  A team that understands that education is a “business” unlike any other, since it involves a human commodity and therefore requires a myriad of viewpoints, practices and approaches to meet the unique needs of each individual student AND teacher.  A team that understands the necessity of working with and involving all stakeholders at all levels to develop strategic partnerships in order to implement and sustain change.

What I love to do…

Collaborate with others to develop and implement innovations for improvement. Integrate research, best practices and “best possibilities” into accessible programs for educators.  Develop systems and structures to ensure successful roll-out and implementation of programs.  Develop trainings, staff development and protocols that not only disseminate information, but model great teaching and thinking.

I am sending this out to the universe in hopes that someone else will find their voice in my words and connect with me.  My dream, goal and vision are just beginning to take shape and I am hoping that they intersect with others who want to join the journey.

When I read your entry, I became so discouraged that you have allowed yourself to feel this way. You as an educator make things better daily, student by student. Let me let you in on something I have learned over the years. Don't let administration get you down-"they are only temporary help."  Think about it. I am sure you know teachers who by choice remain in the classroom for years, while administrators come and go. Rather than getting bogged down with the temporary help, find a group of teachers in your system and form a community to take your school to a place administration never thought about. As teachers we can do this.

Administrators should come to us as teachers and gather our ideas and ideals. Using this information they  should then help us take them to the next level. Many administrators are too busy trying to make a name for themself so they can move on to the next big assignment.  They believe it is for them to impose their ideas of what makes "great" instead of listening and harnessing the ideas from their staff.

When discouraged remember, adminstrators who don't listen and impose their edicts are "tempory help". Find your own power source and make it happen.

I'm also interested. What do you see as a mission statement?

Nikki,

Your post is inspirational.  You are describing the work that I lead and learn in everyday. I would love to connect with you to hear about your hopes and intentions, and perhaps we can share ideas together.

I believe each day is filled with opportunity, discovery and growth.  I too, love change and use my passion to fuel excitement (and change) for learning.  Thank you for capturing much of what energizes me in education!

I'm in.

My strength (and target audience for my work) is with parents. If parents aren't involved, big change will continue to hit walls.

Let me know how I can help.

I love it!  Clearly, you are passionate about your work - there are many amazing educators that are right with you and wanting to collaborate and create, to focus on 'the thinking' with kids, and to make a real difference!

Integration with The Latest Technology in Education Field

It is with certainty that we can say that the future of education is looking very bright. Today the kids are taught so many new innovations that we adults couldn't have imagined learning at school. They are also given exposure to more practical lessons. Integration with the latest technology and the accessibility to global platforms have made the industry take a whole new perspective towards imparting knowledge to students. Though the current generation is much advanced and keep up with the…See More
