I am a much better teacher today, because of how I am able to integrate technology into everything I do--and the students do--in the classroom. The Smart Board and Smart Response system (I'm soon to introduce) have changed everything. The learning environment is becoming dynamic and synergistic for all of us. I push myself to learn how to do more because I see results. Technology is not just a tool; it is a cognitive tool. I can easily develop differentiated lessons and track individual progress instantly. Now we need to rethink the need for brick and mortar and lock-step schedules, in exchange for a continuous progress model. Imagine the money that could be reallocated to tools if we didn't have to pay for so many physical structures, maintenance, and buses. We could also compensate teachers on the same scale as engineers, maybe changing the title to "educational engineer".

The first thing I do every morning is pour a cup of coffee and settle in with the comics! I learned to read with comics, cereal boxes, and Ann Landers. Can't miss a day. I'm a big fan of political cartoons, too. I often use cartoons as writing prompts in my classes, and advice columns for practicing conditional tenses.

I don't know...I had to begin reporting to my local version of the IRS only recently so I'm kind of OK with it (so far). But I'm sure I'll agree in a few months! :) Have you seen the ones that are all signs?
