Anne,
Thanks for the thoughts! I think it is interesting that many of the teachers who resist learning as adults are the same ones who were taught by rote and taught to be dependent on the "sage on the stage".

Beatriz,

Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video and engage me!
I agree that students should be offered choices. One reason for making this little video was to help get that exact message across, actually. From my point of view, too many teachers neglect to learn how to use new tools and in so doing, they reduce the number of choices students can make.
The idea isn't to say "you can't use pencils" it is to say "you can use pencils or podcasts".
'
Having said that, my guess would be that many, if not all, students would choose the latter.

Hi,
I enjoyed the video and it really made me think. The role of the teacher is certainly changing to accommodate our digital students. I think that the teacher needs to become more of the "guide on the side" as learners utilize technology. School districts need to make a serious commitment to emerging technology.

Hi George

I have to admit I have mixed felings about this video. On the one hand, I agree that (kid to teen) learners today are essentially digital and we teachers should adapt and take that into consideration. On the other hand, though (and I'm getting a bit Piagetian here), I think it's also important that they don't miss out on the tools that are not digital but have been proved useful in the past. I think we should address the issue more as a matter of showing and offering choice, the chance to make informed choices as to how they want to learn the various things they'll need to become 21st century social beings.
