This can happen, one class at at time!

I have seen this over a dozen times in the past few years...love it every time.  Alan is excellent at explaining 21st century education AND putting it in historical context.  This "ed reform" that we are involved in is organic....you can't just force a system on young people that's unrelated to the life they live--like many who call themselves "reformers" do.

Enjoyed his short video as he speaks from the heart as to the  direction the world is heading. We need to step back and let the students discuss and decide what they'd like to learn, in some areas.  Teachers can plan their curriculum with their enthusiasm in mind.

I personally enjoyed watching him in his kitchen....he seemed so relaxed and talking as if we were having an everyday converstion on a loaded topic.

Inspirational!  Thank you for sharing.  I look forward to implementing some of these ideas/strategies in the coming school year.

Alan November hit the nail right on the head...there has to be a shift in paradigm and control if we want to help our students flourish and succeed in today's global society.

I attended a workshop on technology the other day and what really struck me was that the teacher disappeared amidst all the resources he was sharing. He somehow stepped aside and worked as a mediator, supporting and coaching, but never calling for exclusive attention at the center of the room. I guess this is what November refers to as being comfortable with shifting control. Teachers there took ownership of their learning, as we should expect our students to do.

I loved the video....I also took notes, then went to his webpage (http://novemberlearning.com/resources/archive-of-articles/digital-l...) to get more information. Read his "Students as Contributors" paper. Very useful and doable...I plan to implement some of his strategies in the fall. Thanks for sharing!

Shelly, Had not had a chance to watch this. Did so today. So powerful, and beautiful. November's ideas are those that I have held in my mind and work for quite sometime. Just not had a way to so clearly articulate them. His 1-4 points are critical, teachable, doable. Actually took notes while viewing! I'm inspired! Thanks friend for posting. Made my day!

Not keen on the boiling-lobsters-alive part!
Quite an unnecessary and unpleasant distraction.

I love this guy, Alan November. His ideas are simultaneously sensible and revolutionary, and he conveys excitement and enthusiasm when he speaks. I've attended the Building Learning Communities conference that November Learning convenes and his keynotes are always inspirational. Though he is clearly a technophile he is aware of the myths and fallacies surrounding educational technology. Best of all, he strives to overcome them and imagine practical applications of technology in schools. Thanks Alan!
