The end result is a compelling case for students to explore career choices early, make informed decisions when declaring their college education goal, and to consider technical skill acquisition, real-world application and academics (career technical programs) in tandem with a classic education. This balanced approach to life and learning results in a well-educated and employed workforce.

Leveraging his expertise in higher education and Career & Technical Education, Kevin Fleming adapted conference presentations and research to create this data-driven explanation. And award winning film creator and producer Brian Y. Marsh brought the data to life through animation.

The complete transcription of the video with data references is available here: http://www.citruscollege.edu/academics/cte/Pages/default.aspx The Insufficient Degree tag:edupln.ning.com,2019-11-09:4241570:Video:309795 2019-11-09T19:33:36.462Z Thomas Whitby http://edupln.ning.com/profile/ThomasWhitby

Employers simply can’t find applicants with the necessary skills required in today’s workplace. As we worked on this, we came up with an idea we hope you'll find worth exploring: targeted learning should fall in the ZPD, but the learning activity shouldn't. This activity should mobilize knowledge, skills or competencies from a higher level of Bloom's taxonomy, when possible.

This Pedagogical Quickie is a bit longer, running 10 minutes or so. But if you're already comfortable with the concepts of Bloom's revised taxonomy or Vygotsky's ZPD, you can skip at 5:45 to see where Judith and I came up with the idea of merging the two.

At the end of the video, there's a blank Bloom/Vygotsky Hybrid Cylinder (Creative Commons 3.0 Canada) that you can use for analyzing/evaluating different learning activities and scenarios your considering for class.

Judith and I took different things out of our working together on this. If you understand French, you can take a look at her take on the matter here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJuU7C68n_g .

Enjoy!
