Event Description

Conference Overview:

The Emerging Technologies Symposium is devoted to the emerging and innovative uses of technology designed to improve teaching and learning online. The conference focuses on the technologies that drive online learning effectiveness, highlighting research, applications and best practices of important emerging technological tools. We encourage submissions related to instruction, networking, assessment, open educational resources, new media and support services.

The Sloan Consortium, MERLOT, and our Emerging Technologies steering committee welcome you to the 7th Annual Emerging Technologies for Online Learning International Symposium (ET4Online), which will be held in Dallas, TX on April 9-11, 2014.

This year, we move the conference to Dallas, a central location for those of you located in North America, which also provides an opportunity to visit the birthplace of the integrated computer circuit which made the information age possible. As we prepare to convene in the cradle of the digital era, it seems hard to believe that how swiftly society has been transformed by emerging technologies.

Symposium attendance at the 2013 symposium located in Las Vegas, NV attracted over 875 onsite and 800 virtual attendees from over 550 institutions, 46 states & territories, and 21 countries representing college level faculty and administrators, instructional technology professionals and instructional designers.

About the Conference:

This conference, which will provide the latest information on asynchronous learning programs, processes, packages, and protocols, is geared to a range of participants from experienced professionals to interested newcomers to online learning. Participants hail from a variety of work sectors, including higher education, continuing education, business, government, health care, professional associations, and nonprofit organizations.

The symposium brings together individuals interested in the technological aspects of online learning. Experts, intermediate users and novices are welcome to participate in Symposium activities that will include face-to-face and virtual components. The Symposium is geared to experienced professionals and interested newcomers to online learning alike.

Unconference: At the end of the conference we will be offering you a chance to share what you know, learn what you don't and spend time with a smaller group of individuals dedicated to increasing their take-aways from ET4Online 2014! The Unconference theme this year is the "UnRodeo" and is based on the idea of "Roping the Bull Called Change." Find more information here:

More Than a Sport: A Look at Scootering’s Evolution

Too many people do not have a clear idea about what is a Scooter; and much less than there is a sport based on it.
