flickr for teaching and learning for all grade levels to foster communication with classrooms across the world

Please review the flickr website and take the tour.

I found that I can use flickr for my classroom and students will be able to interact with other students across the world. flickr allows you to upload and organize your teaching/learning pictures and share them with other classrooms. It provides a discussion board and you are able to ask questions and later discuss pictures about your classroom activity. For example, you can provide pictures about class field trips, special classroom projects, or an activity that you would like to share with others to create meaningful dialogue. Annotations can be added to a picture and your audience can draw hotspots and attach notes to the hotspots. When your audience moves the cursor over a hotspot, the annotations are present for feedback.

That sounds like a great idea! Do you have an example you can share with us or does one have to be logged in in order to see your pictures?

the ideal tool for language teachers!

Hello Philip,

I am researching Flickr and plan to use it in my classroom setting.  It is an excellent way to foster collaboration with other learners to enhance learning.

Thanks for leaving the web address for learnclick.com.  I looked into this website and it does enhance interactive activities online.

Hello Dorothy,

I agree that Flickr is an excellent tool and it enhances visual learners' learning and especially fosters collaboration.  Thanks, I will research Picassa.

David, I love this idea. I think that this will motivate students to want to interact with more of their surrounding peers on a regular basis. Interacting with other peers online about academics is a great strategy to teach our students; specifically because in many professional environments, people are expected to communicate with one another and collaborate on new ideas.

I agree, Audra.  Collaboration is essential in the 21st century, especially with technology.  Technology allows learners and educators to collaborate, big difference from twenty years ago.

This also contributes to the ISTE standards for students.  It's the type of authentic learning that we really need to be doing with our students.

David-After discovering Flickr in our technology classroom I started to play around with it on my tablet. It really is a great tool, unfortunately it isn't something I can use in my classrooms at the time (because half of our computers aren't working). However, I plan on taking the pictures I have from projects, trips, open houses, ect. and creating a booklet to send to my corporate director, so she can upload this information into our main website...and allow all of the parents to access. It really is a great website...I love playing around with it.

VoiceThread is another resource that allows for feedback and annotation to pictures and video.

More Than a Sport: A Look at Scootering’s Evolution

Too many people do not have a clear idea about what is a Scooter; and much less than there is a sport based on it. Besides, it is a sport that has evolved a lot from its beginning, but if you do not know too much about the sport is hard to see it as more than a kid game. However, this sport is more than just kids and young people making scooter tricks in a square; scootering is a kind of culture and a lifestyle that has more than 20 years growing to become what it is today. For this reason, we…See More
