The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

I am curious about which professionals are beginning to co-teach. We have been co-teaching between special education and general education for years. But I am beginning to hear that more and more specialists - ELL, GT, SLP, Technology and Literacy - are also co-teaching. What is happening at your school?

HI, Ann, I am a library/media specialist (K-5) in St. Louis. In August, we are changing from a fixed library schedule to a flexed schedule - this will require lots of collaboration and, hopefully, co-teaching. I have done a little of this in the past at a former school but mostly it was me teaching and the classroom teacher watching. Lots of librarians are in similar situations
Our staff is great and enthusiastic - I think they will try anything. I need information, tips, demos, mentors, anything I can find about how to make this work in my building! Thanks for being here and I love your profile picture! Rosemary
Welcome to the group! Occassionally I get to meet a librarian/media specialist in my workshops that is co-teaching, and I will try to connect you with them. I think that it might be helpful for you to design a co-teaching responsibilities checklist to discuss with the classroom teachers to determine who will do what...I am attaching an example, but you would want to customize it to fit your needs.

Hello. I am new to this group, but I wanted to comment on your discussion. I have recently left the classroom, but co-taught for 10 years in a middle school. The model was so successful, our school has many teachers doing it. We have 4 classes in 6th grade currently co-teaching. This is two classrooms without a wall. Some of these are also taught as inclusion, but there are three teachers in that case. We simply took down walls and combined classrooms. I am happy to collaborate with you about this process and the benefits. Thanks.
