The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Hello everyone,

I was just informed that I will be assigned to one of my districts high schools as a social studies teacher.  With middle school SS experience, and district instructional technology experience, I am looking forward to this transition.  I was wondering if anyone in the group could recommend online High School SS sites/resources .  I have quite a few in my diigo already, but am always open to what other people are using/referencing.     Thanks!

Jayson,

I guess a lot of things depend on what high school level you will be teaching.  My thought is that if you are teaching 9th grade, it probably won't be a huge shift for you.  If you're teaching 11th or 12th grade, the maturity level difference will be significant, I guess, but you probably will do well.

You might check the NCSS Network (http://ncssnetwork.ning.com).  Similar to what I hope we could do here, there's a lot of discussion opportunities.  Also, while it's a commercial site, Social Studies School Service (http://www.socialstudies.com) has a lot of free information that you can use.

I've also become a fan of Twitter over the past few months.  So, there's a good possibility for interaction there.

Hope this helps.
